Soap star Ross to marry girl from Warrington

From the Guardian Series, first published Friday 26th Jul 1996.

EASTENDERS heart throb, Ross Kemp, is to marry a Warrington girl.

He popped the question to Rebekah Wade, whose family live on Warrington Road in the village of Hatton.

Father, John Wade, said this week he was looking forward to meeting his prospective son-in-law.

"The first time I knew of the engagement was when Rebekah rang to tell me she was getting married.

"It was quite a surprise. She told me about Ross but I don't watch the television very much so to be honest I hadn't really heard of him.

"I haven't spoken to Ross yet but I am looking forward to meeting him when they both come to see my wife and I."

Rebekah, a 27-year-old national Sunday newspaper journalist, now lives in London.

It is rumoured Ross, who plays burly Grant Mitchell in the BBC top soap, paid £20,000 for Rebecca's engagement ring.
