£million contracts announced at AEA

AEA Technolgy has marked the announcement of its first half yearly results as an independent public company with ground breaking contracts worth millions of pounds.

Two contracts, worth £4m, are with the pharmaceuticals giant, SmithKline Beecham.

Another is with the US Department of Energy and involves the largest environmental clean-up operation in the USA.

The contract was secured through AEA Technology's reputation for treatment of radioactive waste.

AEA Technolgoy has also gained a foothold in the fast-growing nuclear industry in China with a contract involving training and technical co-operation.

The company announced operating profits of £6.4m, up 18.5 per cent, underlying earnings per share of 5.1p, up 13.3 per cent, profit before and tax and restructuring costs up 15 per cent, net gearing at 18 per cent and interim dividend of 2.75p net per share.
