LIVERPOOL'S famous Anfield ground is to stage its first Super
League Rugby League match next year.
Super League champions St Helens are switching their home match against Castleford Tigers on Sunday, April 27, to Anfield from their Knowsley Road ground.
St Helens chief executive David Howes says: "Having increased our average attendance to 10,200 last season we are now aiming to extend our Super League support on a more regional basis.
"Liverpool is the region's capital city and we are taking the game to the people."
It will be the third Rugby League match played at Anfield with Liverpool hosting the 1989 Charity Shield between Wigan and Widnes which attracted a 17,263 crowd.
The 1991 World Club Challenge between Wigan and Australian club Penrith pulled in a 20,152 attendance.
