WHOOPS EAGLE!

From the Guardian Series, first published Saturday 1st Nov 1997.

Eagle RUFC 1st 7

Crewe and Nantwich 38

EAGLE can only hope that in the next few weeks they can get some of their injured players fit, otherwise with more performances like this they could easily go sliding down the league.

Eagle, with 10 changes to their side, were no match for a strong Crewe outfit.

After going 15-0 down early on Eagle battled well and were rewarded with a penalty try.

For a while they more than matched their opponents before Crewe ran away with the game late on.

Best were Edwards, Evans, Gettins and Sandwell.

Eagle 2nd 28

Burtonwood 5

IN a very physical niggly encounter Eagle were too strong and experienced for a committed Burtonwood side.

Eagle were always in control thanks to some early tries and had the game well won before Burtonwood scored in the last minute.

Eagle try scorers were Unsworth 2 and Walsh 2 with Myers adding a conversion, penalty and drop goal.

Best for Eagle were Worrall, Bates, Chadburn, Cunningham and Gillicker.
