Warrington News

We must fight for Wolves' stadium

I WAS disappointed to hear the news that John Prescott has deferred the decision to a public inquiry for Warrington Wolves' new stadium. This resulting delay, reported to be a year, is a setback to the plans but if the Wolves' management, Council, Tesco and other backers of the new stadium keep faith with the project I think we can pull through this.  more...

Remember them at election time

NOW for the time being the likes of Clr Mike Hughes and North Warrington MP Helen Jones seem to have at least held up construction of the new Wolves Stadium and a Tesco Superstore. Both these people, along with Barbara Mawer Lib-Dem leader on this council will have a lot to answer for if at the end of the day we supporters of the Warrington Club don't have a new stadium and are out of Super League due to them and others associated with the Labour Party. It can be said with honesty that Clr B. Mawer voted against this project because she wished to see part of the site used for housing. The area she lives in at Thelwall and represents just happens to be the next area designated for housing. Living in Mike Hughes' area of Fairfield, which he represents, I find him a waste of space and time as a councillor.  more...

Setback is only temporary

ON arriving home from work and looking at Teletext seeing the decision on the People's Stadium, I hope Clr Hughes is pleased with himself, because I for one am disgusted. Not only by the way he went about it, writing to Mr Prescott, but not discusing it with other councillors or the club itself. He has set the stadium back, but I believe only temporary.  more...

Objections to Arpley extension lodged

PLANNERS in Halton have lodged their objections to one of the Arpley landfill extension applications. Members of the Halton Borough Council's development control and licensing committee this week resolved to object to the application for an extension to the site's opening hours. They made the decision because of concerns that the scheme would have a detrimental impact on local residents. The move is seen to add weight to objectors' efforts in Warrington, who have launched a leaflet campaign to battle 3C Waste's application which, if approved, could see the tip operating every day of the year. Members of Warrington's development control committee are likely to consider the hours application in early spring possibly the end of February. A second and much larger and controversial application to extend the tip by 110 hectares and develop a rail link is not likely to come to committee until the end of the year.  more...
