THE BIBLE COME TO LIFE

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 4th Oct 2001.

HUNDREDS of children are to be transported back 2,000 years to the time of Jesus by a major exhibition which opens tomorrow.

The Bible Comes to Life exhibition uses a mixture of drama, video and authentic costumes to bring to life the characters and land of the Bible.

It features 13 large displays containing genuine Biblical artefacts and models of the Temple, Synagogue and Tabernacle.

The exhibition is being brought to the town by Biddulph Churches Together, supported by a number of Congleton churches, and runs for four days at the town hall.

"It is so good to see so many churches working together to bring the Bible alive to the people of our town," said exhibition organiser Reverend Martin Cannam, the vicar of St Lawrence's Church, Congleton Road, Biddulph.

"Many people in Biddulph remember the 1984 exhibition and the new insights it gave them into the Bible.

"We are hoping that local schools, regular churchgoers, and those who don't normally go to church or open a Bible will all benefit from this fascinating event."

Civic and church leaders from Biddulph and Congleton are due to attend tomorrow's official opening at 2.15pm, which will be performed by Biddulph town mayor John Redfern.

During weekday mornings more than 600 children from local schools, together with parents and teachers, will be attending.

Entry is free from 2pm to 4.30pm and 7.30pm to 11pm tomorrow, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
