How can we make the Carnival better?

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 28th Nov 2002.

PLANS are already being drawn up for Crewe Carnival 2003 and the borough council wants your help.

Over 65,000 people enjoyed this year's highly successful two-day festival, which involved many local private and voluntary organisations with practical support from key local businesses such as The Limelight Club.

In order to keep the Carnival developing further, the council is asking individuals and organisations to come forward with ideas and offers of practical involvement in managing the event.

Council board member, Cllr John Hatfield explains:

"The carnival in Crewe is a fantastically successful community celebration.

"It attracts huge attendances from people in South Cheshire and beyond.

The borough council has been proud to continue to develop the events and traditions over the past years but we cannot further develop the potential of the event by ourselves.

"We want to hear now from private companies and voluntary organisations who can see the opportunities for future growth and provide practical support, expertise, enthusiasm and commitment to make the Carnvial even bigger and better."

To ensure plans for 2003 are well underway, the Carnival office would like to hear from interested parties before Monday, December 16.
