Numerous activities were held in preparation for a 'mock coronation' in the afternoon when head teacher Mr Cronin crowned pupil Lisa Mee as Queen Elizabeth II. Each class formed a group of people who would have been present in 1953, from Chelsea pensioners, the clergy and foreign dignitaries. During the morning the pupils put the finishing touches to their costumes, and learned more about their role.  more...

REGARDING your article Co-op Monopoly in Burtonwood Village. This is not the first time they have muscled in. We had a bakery at the top end of Fairclough Street then the Co-op started selling cheap bread and that was the end of the bakery. At the bottom end of Fairclough Street we had a newsagent, Percy's. Percy was not just a newsagent, he sold buckets, mops, elastic, but most of all he was a friend to all that knew him in Burtonwood. Two years off retiring Percy was put out of business by the Co-op selling papers. If you live at the bottom end of the village no way can you walk to the Co-op in five minutes.  more...
