Caroline leads the way as ladies take second

THE ladies of St Helens Sutton AC repeated their success of the previous meeting when again taking second place in the latest Northern Womens' League match held at Macclesfield.

In the under-15 years age group, Caroline Morley was the club's only winner as she took first place in both the 75 metre hurdles in 12.5secs, and the high jump with 1.42 metres. Caroline was also third in the 200 metres with 28.5secs.

Anna Sheffield was second in the discus with 15.68 metres, third in the long jump with 4.11 metres and put the shot 7.30 metres.

Sarah Lewis was second in the 100 metres in 13.9secs, Laura Brier was second in the javelin with 11.44 metres and ran the 800 metres in 3min 12.0secs, and Vicky Johnson was second in the shot put with 7.62 metres.

Laura Savage ran the 800 metres in 2min 40.4secs, and long jumped 3.95 metres. Kirsty Lewis ran the 100 and 200 metres in times of 13.9secs and 29.4secs, and Stephanie Currie threw the javelin 11.42 metres and high jumped 1.27 metres.

Anna, Caroline, Kirsty and Sarah made up the 4 x 100 metres relay team which finished second in 56.0secs.

Of those competing in the under-7 years group, the best individual performance came from Lucy Mitchell who took first place in both the shot put, 6.04 metres and the javelin, 13.32 metres.

Girls taking second place were Natasha Briers in the 100 metres with 13.7secs, Layla Tapley in the 800 metres with 2min 54.6sec and Nicola Quinn in the long jump with 3.98 metres.

Layla also finished third in the 200 metres with 31.3secs and long jumped 3.10 metres, while Nicola also ran 14.6secs for the 100 metres and put the shot 6 metres. The 4 x 100 metres relay team of Nicola, Natasha, Layla and Lucy took second place.

The club's only winner among the senior athletes was Sue Lowrie who took the 200 metres in 27.6secs, and ran 13.5secs for the 100 metres, a distance at which Michelle Murray took second with her time of 13.7secs, to add to her time of 29.2secs in the 100 metres.

Gill Bacon took second spot in the 1,500 metres with 5min 3.8secs and repeated the placing in the 3,000 metres with 10min 52.4secs. Diane Appleton was third in the 400 metres with 68 secs and ran 2min 38.0secs for the 800 metres.

Louise Casey was third in the 800 metres with 2min 37.9secs and ran 5min 30.5secs for the 1500 metres. Chris Dempsey ran the 400 metres in 79.2secs.
