WOULD-BE actors are being sought for an open air show to be staged in Biddulph town centre this summer.
The production would be presented in the "strolling players" style, and tells of the siege of Biddulph Old Hall.
The play is being written by Barry Stanway, who has organised a Victorian Day and Sealed Knot and medieval re-enactments in the town.
The three-week hall siege took place in 1644 during the English Civil War, and Mr Stanway is seeking people to take part in his play.
Acting experience would be helpful but not essential, as the main things Mr Stanway is looking for are enthusiasm and an interest in history.
The play is due to be staged in July as part of an afternoon of street entertainment including falconry, jester and period music.
About 20 people are needed for the production, for the technical side as well as the acting roles.
The siege production is the first of three plays Mr Stanway, from John Street, Biddulph, is planning to write and stage in the town over the next three years.
Next year's show will revolve around horticulturalist James Bateman, and the 2005 production will focus on industrialist Robert Heath.
"The plays are aimed at drawing people into the town and promoting the Biddulph Valley," said Mr Stanway.
Anyone taking part must be at least 14 years old, and the play will form part of the Biddulph Festival.
