TWENTY-two St Helens based community groups for children and young people are about to benefit from a share of a £103,000 cash payout from a major Government grant scheme.
Youth groups, sports clubs, playgroups and arts organisations are amongst those to benefit from a cash boost from the Merseyside and Halton Local Network Fund.
One of the groups, Thatto Heath Crusaders was helped with a grant of £6,939.33 towards protective rugby equipment. The fund, one of 50 similar nationwide, provides support to children and young people up to the age of 19 and is based around four key themes.
These are making support widely available to all children and to help them try to achieve goals they would otherwise be unable to do. The fund also aims to address 'economic disadvantage' and 'children's voices' (projects that give them the chance to express their opinions on matters that concern them).
Local Network Fund Manager Rachel Peacock said: "We are delighted to have been able to support all these groups and urge other projects to find out how they can benefit from the scheme."
