Firm brightens up Chancellor's party

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 9th Jan 2003.

TV celebrities, football stars and a company from Warrington joined the Chancellor of the Exchequer to throw a Christmas party for deaf children at No. 11 Downing Street.

Chancellor Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah host a children's charity party every Christmas and this year chose to benefit the National Deaf Children's Society (NDCS).

Phonak UK sponsored the occasion that boasted a football master class from England internationals Joe Cole and Trevor Sinclair and Spurs goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

The company, of Lakeside Drive, specialises in paediatric hearing instruments.

Phonak UK provided goody bags for the children to open at the end of the party, which even had the recently retired ITN political editor John Sergeant making a special appearance as Father Christmas.
