Ivor trains hard to raise funds for charity

SPORTY head teacher Ivor Morgan went that extra mile to raise money for a charity close to the heart of his school, William Beamont Juniors.

Three years ago, pupil Kurt Emery was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a cancer which attacks the lymph glands.

Keen footballer Kurt has now moved on to high school after making a good recovery, but his sister Ellie still attends William Beamont Juniors.

Mr Morgan decided to enrol for the Great North Run to raise money for a charity called Chics Chats, a support service for the parents and families of children diagnosed with the cancer.

He completed the 14 miles in true style with an amazing time of just one hour 58 minutes.

He said: "As a 16-year-old I used to run for Cheshire and competed regularly in national events but there's a big difference when you're 50 plus, the old body isn't quite the same, things take their toll.

"The last couple of miles were really gruelling and I started to feel quite a bit of pain but I knew if I stopped running and started walking that would be it."

So far Mr Morgan's running feat has raised in excess of £400 for the charity and he plans to enrol for next year's event too.
