Crewe doesn't need moral pollution

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 27th Feb 2003.

I AM writing to voice my concern over the proposed development of a sex shop and warehouse in Crewe.

It cannot be in the best interests of Crewe and its inhabitants. Do we want Crewe's name to have the dubious honour of having one of the world's largest sex shops in its midst? Surely not!

It mentions there would be jobs created but so would the creation of a red-light district or a factory to produce germ warfare, but that doesn't make it right.

Crewe has lots of scope for the development of much more wholesome leisure pursuits, such as a bowling alley, cinema, restaurants etc.

We have problems enough without encouraging such moral pollution.

A concerned Crewe resident.
