Triton hope for rival slip-up

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 27th Feb 2003.

TRITON hockey club are hoping promotion rivals Plas Coch slip up in their last few games of the season.

Triton won 4-1 at Winnington Park on Saturday, lifting them to third in the table.

However their chances of catching Plas Coch, currently in the second promotion place, are slim.

The team from Wrexham need just six points from their remaining five games to secure second spot.

Winnington took the lead after seven minutes, but Triton equalised shortly after through John Cowgill.

Cowgill put his side ahead 10 minutes later with a contender for goal of the season.

He picked up the ball inside his own half before racing the length of the pitch and firing impressively into the roof of the net.

He completed his hat-trick on 33 minutes, and Simon Cruxton scored Triton's fourth 13 minutes from time.

Triton 2nds won 3-0 at Bebington with goals from Tom Easdown, Simon Hulson and Tom Chaddock.

Triton Ladies lost 4-0 at Stone.

Triton 1st X1 are at home to Holmes Chapel tomorrow, the 2nds travel to Sale, and the Ladies are at Lichfield.
