Lucinda's dream

A WOMAN has left one of Portugal's top holiday resorts to run a village post office near Knutsford.

Lucinda Fenton heard about the postmaster's job at Rostherne from her brother who lives in the village.

"I had been considering moving back over here but was going to leave it for a while before making any firm decisions," she said on Monday.

Lucinda, a former Knutsford High School pupil, grew up in Woodlands Drive, Knutsford.

She and her husband Craig and their two sons moved to The Algarve about a year ago to run a restaurant. "I've never worked in a post office before and do not really know what to expect but I see it as a challenge and can't wait to take it on," said Lucinda, 35.

The village store and post office has served the residents of Rostherne, which is home to 144 houses, for many years.

But last year after postmaster Jim Green left due to falling trade, many feared the store would never reopen. However, the post office and shop will soon be back in business five mornings a week to spare the village's elderly residents the long trip into Knutsford.

"I had heard many different stories about the shop but decided to take on the challenge regardless," she said. "I have many new ideas that I may introduce to try and improve the business."
