The Clean Team

From the Guardian Series, first published Wednesday 19th Mar 2003.

is top of the class

THE Middlewich Clean Team was out again at the weekend at Middlewich High School - and it was its largest clean up yet.

Members tackled a large area of the perimeter of the school grounds and collected 18 bags of cans, bottles, sweet wrappers and cigarette boxes.

And the dedicated team will be returning to the scene next week to complete the task.

Headteacher David Lythgoe has given his full support to the group and has said that he would like the school to be involved in a practical way. Many local shopkeepers are also supporting the scheme in a practical way.

Support

Meanwhile, even more support for Middlewich Clean Team has come in the shape of residents who litter pick areas on a daily basis - simply by taking a carrier bag out with them.

The team believe it is not demeaning to pick up litter and wants to encourage more people not to drop litter and maybe even pick up the odd piece to make Middlewich a nicer place to live in.

Its aim is to make a large task for a small number of helpers a small task for many.

If anyone feels that they can help, even in a small way, they can go along to a team meeting on Wednesday, May 19, from 7.30pm at the cafe Bar M or contact Maxine on 01606 835311.
