Jodie's international ambitions

From the Guardian Series, first published Wednesday 19th Mar 2003.

A YOUNGSTER from Middlewich is one step closer to achieving her goal of becoming a qualified Guide leader.

Jodie Edgerton, aged 17, is a young leader for the 1st Cledford Brownies and has been selected by the International Guiding Association to attend 'Free Life', an international scout camp in Austria in August.

But in order to go all the candidates need to prove they can fund the trip themselves and Jodie has to raise £800.

She has already organised a bag pack at Iceland in Winsford and a Valentine's raffle.

Jodie also has a prize bingo night planned for Thursday, April 10, at Middlewich British Legion, starting at 7.30pm.

Anyone wishing to support Jodie can turn up on the night and there will be a variety of prizes to win.

Jodie said: "I enjoy being a young leader with the Brownies and working with the children and the other leaders.

"I am very excited and thrilled to have been selected and am thrilled about going. I just hope I can raise the money."

At the camp Jodie will be working towards becoming a warranted qualified Guide leader and her work will also contribute towards her gold Duke of Edinburgh Award.
