Time for a classic

From the Guardian Series, first published Wednesday 19th Mar 2003.

THE HOURS - the story of three women searching for more potent, meaningful lives - comes to Knutsford Studio Cinema on Friday.

The film stars Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore.

Each woman is alive at a different time and place, but all are linked by their yearnings and their fears.

Their stories intertwine, and finally come together in a surprising, transcendent moment of shared recognition.

The Hours (12A) will be screened from Friday at 8pm nightly, with the exception of Monday. There will be a 2pm matinee on Thursday.

Also showing on Friday at 6pm, and 1pm, 3.30pm and 6pm on Saturday and Sunday is The Wild Thornberrys Movie (U).

Meanwhile, troubled teenager Donnie meets a giant rabbit in Monday's contemporary film, Donnie Darko, at Knutsford Studio Cinema.

The rabbit tells him the world will end in 28 days.

Through a series of surreal adventures and misadventures, Donnie finds himself travelling through time or could it just be schizophrenia?

Richard Kelly's acclaimed debut feature references many films of the late 1980s and mixes many different movie genres and breathes new life into the American independents.

Donnie Darko (15) will be screened on Monday night only at 8pm.
