Das shows his class as Newton cricketers record a triple triumph

INDIAN Test match ace Shiv Sundar Das showed his class at the weekend as Newton Cricket Club recorded another trio of wins.

The promotion chasing first team were in trouble at Haydock as the home side racked up 120 runs for the loss of only two wickets.

Das turned the tide with a stunning five-wicket haul and Liverpool and District Competition player of the month Malik continued the comeback.

He took four wickets as Haydock were skittled for 180 runs.

This seemed like a challenging target but Das made light work of the run chase.

He backed up his brilliant bowling with yet another century for the club and excellent support from Lyon, Fearnley and D Barlow secured an emphatic victory.

Newton Seconds were also comfortable winners at the weekend.

They beat third-placed Fleetwood with Ian Holcroft playing a starring role.

He hit 89 not out as Newton made 160.

Other notable contributions came from Brookes and 12-year-old Liam Horsfield.

Halliwell and Warburton struck early in reply to reduce Fleetwood to 36-3.

Newton then introduced Birchall and A Barlow to the attack.

They took two wickets for 26 runs and 4-12 respectively as Fleetwood were bowled out for only 86.

Newton's third team completed the clean sweep of club wins at home to Leigh.

Halliwell and Fearnley got the home side off to a flyer. Boardman maintained the momentum but a middle order batting collapse ensured that Newton were dismissed for 141.

Debut boy Rob Smith made his presence felt in reply. He was excellent in the field and he was unlucky not to pick up a wicket as Leigh lost batsmen at regular intervals.

Dave Boardman was the pick of Newton's bowlers as Leigh were bowled out for 136.

Newton's first team play Fleetwood at home on Saturday while the seconds travel to Caldy.

On Sunday, the third team visit Formby and the first team travel to Liverpool's Aigburth ground for a cup semi-final clash.
