Pulling out all the stops for music man Pete

From the Guardian Series, first published Thursday 10th Mar 2005.

A SELL-OUT crowd paid tribute to Audlem bass player Pete Hardy at a concert in aid of two worthy causes.

More than 200 friends, relatives and former band mates of Pete, pictured above, turned out for a concert in his honour at Audlem Public Hall.

Pete, one of the best-known musicians from the village, died from cancer at the age of 40 in February last year.

The night, which featured performances by Pete's former colleagues, raised £2,500 for the survivors of the tsunami disaster and a scheme to install a new water pump in Zambia.

Pete's mother, Pat Hardy, said: "It was an absolutely wonderful night, and we are so pleased with the amount of money raised.

"We decided to split the money between the tsunami appeal and a project for a new water pump in Zambia, because Pete spent a lot of his time working in South Africa, and his sister will soon be going to Zambia to promote healthy living."
