A CREWE toddler has been fighting for his life this week after he came into collision with a car.

The two-year-old boy, who has not been named, is thought to have been playing on a green at Bentilee in Stoke-on-Trent seconds before the accident at 5.35pm on Saturday.

The youngster, who has not been named, had been visiting his grandparents at the weekend when he was in collision with a Peugeot car being driven towards Bucknall by a 34-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent.

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "As a result of the collision the child suffered serious, potentially life threatening head injuries and was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire."

Officers, who sealed off the scene for some hours following the accident, are appealing for witnesses to the collision.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Ambulance Service said: "We worked quickly to get doctors and paramedics to the scene and the best treatment possible was carried out at the scene and on the way to the hospital."

The boy's condition was described by hospital staff as 'serious but stable' as the Guardian went to press.
