Keeping the dream alive

CREWE and Nantwich RUFC reclaimed second spot in SLC Division Two with a 17-5 victory at Wallasey.

Don Ngatia recorded two tries in another crucial win that keeps the pressure on promotion rivals Oldershaw who were inactive, last weekend.

Having played one more now, Crewe must win all their remaining fixtures and still hope their challengers slip up in the quest for Division One rugby, next season.

With their promotion hopes rekindled by that superb 8-5 win over league leaders Anselmians, Crewe got the job done this time in a rugged match-up.

The visitors opened their account when Will Potts broke and released the ball for Ngatia to take forward and score which Danny Lunch converted.

Wallasey fought back quickly with a try after winning a five metre scrum but Crewe managed to go further ahead at the interval when winger Andy O'Keffe crashed over in the corner to extend the difference to 12-5.

Despite facing a strong wind, the visitors maintained control and wrapped up victory when Lynch raced down the wing and passed infield for Ngatia to score his second try of the afternoon.

"A win is a win," exclaimed coach Matt Farr.

Crewe need to keep winning with Ashton-On-Mersey away next, this Saturday.
