DISTRAUGHT workers at a factory where a young man last week lost his life have only just returned to work.
Bosses sent shocked colleagues of Lee Alexander, 27, who died in the jaws of a forklift truck at Shearfab metal fabricators, home immediately after the horrific accident.
But the 30-strong team have bravely gone back to work this week ahead of their workmate's funeral this week.
"They are coping but they are only just back at work," said the Ditton-based firm's director, Des Scott.
"It's Lee's funeral this week and they have made him something as a gift."
Grieving friends and family of Mr Alexander have paid tribute to him on the World's online message board.
Workmate Anthony Spencer described his friend, an experienced fitter who had worked his way up as an apprentice, as 'a great lad'.
"I learned a lot from you, and work will never be the same without you!" Mr Spencer said.
A friend of Mr Alexander's girlfriend, Alison, who is believed to live locally, described him as 'the best thing that ever happened to her'.
"He lived life to the full and never gave up on anything at all," said Daniella Walsh in Kirkby. "He'll be missed by a lot of people."
Another friend, Mo Martin from Burtonwood, said: "I was lucky enough to have shared more than a few memorable nights out with Lee at the Cream in years gone by. We had some fantastic times there - you'll be sadly missed mate."
And friends of his devastated girlfriend said: "We know Lee made you so happy and it's hurting us so bad to see you the way you are now without him.
"Although we only met Lee a few times he touched us with his personality. He was lovely and we will miss him so much."
Mr Alexander's parents were unavailable for comment when the World visited the family home in Greenway Road, Speke.
An inquest into his death has been opened and adjourned.
